A Candid Conversation: Adam Peaty and Michael Phelps

Michael Phelps: Hey Adam, great to see you! How’s everything going?

Adam Peaty: Hey Michael, it’s good to catch up! Everything’s been good, just busy with training and competitions. How about you?

Michael Phelps: Pretty good! Enjoying some downtime with family and still dabbling in swimming. You know, just keeping the gills wet. Speaking of which, how’s your training routine looking these days?

Adam Peaty: Well, you know how it is. It’s intense! Lots of early mornings, strength training, and technique work. I’ve been focusing a lot on my starts and turns lately. How did you handle the grind during your peak years?

Michael Phelps: Oh, the grind! Trust me, it doesn’t get easier, but I guess you learn to love it. For me, it was all about finding that balance and pushing the limits. A lot of underwater work and, of course, the infamous Phelps diet. What’s on your plate these days?

Adam Peaty: Haha, I’ve heard about that! My diet’s pretty rigorous too. High protein, lots of carbs, and a ton of veggies. Got to fuel the machine, right? Speaking of machines, any tips for staying mentally tough during those grueling training sessions?

Michael Phelps: It’s all about setting small goals and staying focused. Visualization was a big part of my routine. I used to replay my races in my mind – the perfect stroke, the perfect race. The mental game is just as important as the physical. How do you keep yourself motivated?

Adam Peaty: I’m a big believer in visualization too. I also draw a lot of motivation from my goals and knowing there’s always room to improve. Plus, the competition always fires me up. By the way, we’ve both conquered the pool, but is there any other sport you’ve secretly wanted to master?

Michael Phelps: Haha, I’ve thought about it! Honestly, golf has been my post-swimming pursuit. It’s a different kind of challenge. How about you? Any other sports caught your eye?

Adam Peaty: Golf, nice! For me, it’s been a mix but I’ve got my eye on triathlons. It’s a whole new level of endurance and skill. I think it’d be a great way to keep pushing my limits.

Michael Phelps: Triathlons, now that’s impressive! I’m sure you’d crush it. It’s great that we’re always chasing new challenges. Keeps life interesting, doesn’t it?

Adam Peaty: Absolutely! Always another mountain to climb. Anyway, it’s been awesome chatting with you, Michael. Let’s definitely do this again soon!

Michael Phelps: For sure, Adam. Keep smashing those records, and I’ll catch you at the next big meet!

Adam Peaty: You too, take care!
