Andreas Seppi’s Fireside Chat with Roger Federer
Seppi: Hey Roger, it’s always a pleasure to catch up! It’s been a while since we’ve had a good sit-down.
Federer: Likewise, Andreas! Always great to chat with an old friend. How have you been holding up since your retirement?
Seppi: It’s been a significant change, that’s for sure. I’m focusing more on my family now, and I’ve even started giving some coaching clinics. But I have to admit, there’s nothing like the thrill of playing on the tour.
Federer: Absolutely. That rush of adrenaline on the court is unmatched. Speaking of coaching, I’ve heard you’ve been quite a hit with the juniors. How’s that experience treating you?
Seppi: Oh, it’s been fantastic! Watching the young ones pick up their rackets with such enthusiasm reminds me of why I fell in love with tennis in the first place. Their eagerness is infectious.
Federer: I can imagine. It must feel great to pass on your knowledge. Do you miss the competitive grind at all?
Seppi: Honestly, sometimes I do miss the competition and the camaraderie. But I’m enjoying this new pace too. It’s given me more time to explore my other interests, like hiking and photography. That said, I’m always up for a friendly game if you are!
Federer: Haha! I’ll take you up on that offer one of these days. Hiking sounds wonderful. Have you been on any memorable trails lately?
Seppi: Yes! I recently hiked the Dolomites in Italy. The scenery was just breathtaking. It’s a whole different form of therapy compared to tennis. How about you? Have you picked up any new hobbies?
Federer: I’ve been dabbling in a bit of everything – playing some golf, spending more time with my kids. And I’ve been embracing my role as a tennis ambassador. It’s nice to give back to the sport that has given us so much.
Seppi: That’s amazing. Your contribution to tennis has always been immense. Any plans on coming back to the court in some capacity? Exhibitions, perhaps?
Federer: I’m considering a few exhibitions and charity matches. They’re always fun and for a good cause. Plus, it’s a great way to stay connected with fans and fellow players like yourself.
Seppi: That sounds like a blast! It’s so important to keep those bonds alive. Speaking of which, we should organize a reunion match soon. Maybe rope in a few others and make a day of it.
Federer: Absolutely, let’s do it! It would be great to hit the court with you and the rest of the gang again. Here’s to new adventures and lasting friendships in this next chapter of our lives!
