Caitlin Clark in Conversation with Sue Bird: From One Great to Another

Caitlin Clark: Hey Sue, it’s so awesome to finally get a chance to chat with you! You’ve been a huge inspiration for me growing up. I remember watching you play and thinking, “That’s who I want to be someday.”

Sue Bird: Caitlin, that’s amazing to hear! Trust me, the admiration is mutual. I’ve definitely caught some of your games and, girl, you are a beast on the court. What’s it like being the new face of women’s college basketball?

Caitlin Clark: Thanks, Sue! It’s surreal but super thrilling. It comes with a lot of pressure, but I thrive on that. Keeping up with school, meeting fans, and pushing for those wins—it’s a wild ride, but I love every minute of it. How did you manage to keep it all balanced, especially during your college days?

Sue Bird: Ah, balance—that elusive thing! For me, it was all about time management and having a solid support system. My coaches, teammates, and family played huge roles. And, of course, learning how to relax and recharge. What do you do when you’re off the court?

Caitlin Clark: I’m all about Netflix binges and hanging out with my friends. And, of course, I grew up in Iowa so I love me some quality time outdoors. Nothing beats a good old-fashioned BBQ! How about you? What’s your off-court escape?

Sue Bird: I’m a bit of a foodie, so exploring new restaurants and trying different cuisines is my thing. And can’t forget my love for a good book or some travel when the schedule allows. Speaking of travel, any favorite cities you’ve played in?

Caitlin Clark: Besides Iowa City, of course, I’d say New York was pretty epic. The energy there is just next-level! Plus, getting the chance to play at Madison Square Garden was a dream come true. Where’s your favorite spot to play?

Sue Bird: MSG is iconic for sure! But I have a soft spot for Seattle. The fans there are unreal, and it’s just got this vibe that makes every game special. So, Caitlin, looking ahead, where do you see yourself in, say, five years?

Caitlin Clark: Hopefully, I’m killing it in the WNBA and maybe even bringing home some hardware, both individual and team titles! And of course, continuing to grow the game and inspire the next generation, just like you’ve done. Any advice for me as I chase these dreams?

Sue Bird: Keep doing what you’re doing, stay focused, and never lose sight of why you fell in love with the game in the first place. Enjoy every moment, and don’t forget to have fun along the way. You’ve got the talent and the drive, so just keep pushing those boundaries.

Caitlin Clark: Thanks, Sue! That means the world coming from you. I’m ready to keep grinding and see where the journey takes me.

Sue Bird: You’ve got this, Caitlin. The future is bright—and you’re lighting the way!
