Inside the Huddle: Gary Kubiak and Peyton Manning Talk Football, Life, and Legacy
Gary Kubiak: Hey Peyton, it’s been a while! How have you been?
Peyton Manning: Gary! Good to see you, my man. I’ve been great, busy with a bit of everything – TV shows, making bad jokes on commercials, you know, the usual. How about you? Retired life treating you well?
Gary Kubiak: Oh, you know, staying out of trouble mostly. Spending more time with family, but you can never really leave football, can you?
Peyton Manning: Ain’t that the truth! I find myself drawing up plays on napkins at restaurants sometimes. You must miss the game planning, though.
Gary Kubiak: Absolutely. There’s nothing quite like the rush of calling plays on game day. Speaking of which, what do you miss the most about our Super Bowl 50 run?
Peyton Manning: (laughs) Probably the camaraderie. You know, those moments in the locker room, on the sidelines… and let’s not forget your let’s-get-it-done speeches. You had us revved up every single game!
Gary Kubiak: Well, it helps when you’ve got someone like you commanding the offense. Your leadership was paramount. How’s that competitive edge these days? Getting some friendly competition with Eli still?
Peyton Manning: Always! Whether it’s golf, pickleball, or seeing who can cook the best steak, we keep it going. How about you? What’s keeping you busy nowadays?
Gary Kubiak: I’ve been helping out here and there in advisory roles, staying active in the game but without the full-time grind. It’s nice to take a step back and still be involved.
Peyton Manning: That’s awesome. Your football mind is invaluable, Gary. Any young coaches you’ve got your eye on? Future Kubiaks?
Gary Kubiak: (chuckles) There are some impressive talents out there. Watching the upcoming generation brings back a lot of memories. Just hoping they have as much passion for the game as we did.
Peyton Manning: No doubt. Well, Gary, always great catching up. We need to do this more often. Maybe next time, we’ll do it on a golf course with a friendly wager, what do you say?
Gary Kubiak: That sounds like a plan! Just remember, I’ve got a few new tricks up my sleeve. Let’s make it happen, Peyton. It’s a date!
