An Engaging Poolside Chat with Jake Magahey and Katie Ledecky

Jake Magahey: Hey Katie, it’s awesome to catch up with you! Been watching a lot of your meets lately. How do you keep breaking record after record?

Katie Ledecky: Hey Jake, thanks! You know, it’s just lots of hard work, consistency, and a love for the water. Speaking of impressive swims, your 500-yard freestyle was phenomenal! What’s your secret?

Jake Magahey: Haha, well, I try to channel my inner Katie Ledecky! Seriously though, it’s a mix of solid training, focus on technique, and a bit of stubborn determination. What keeps you motivated to stay at the top?

Katie Ledecky: For me, it’s all about setting new goals and challenging myself. Plus, I love the feeling of racing and the camaraderie within the swimming community. How have you found balancing college life with your training?

Jake Magahey: It’s definitely a juggling act! The University of Georgia has been super supportive, though. I just try to manage my time well and keep my priorities straight. How did you handle the transition from college swimming to professional?

Katie Ledecky: It was a step up, for sure, but having a solid foundation from my college years at Stanford really helped. Finding a rhythm and surrounding myself with a great support team made the transition smoother. Any pre-race rituals you swear by?

Jake Magahey: I always listen to some high-energy music to get pumped and visualize my race. Oh, and I have this lucky swim cap that’s seen me through some big races. Do you have any rituals that are must-dos?

Katie Ledecky: Definitely! I always eat a banana before my race and do a specific warm-up routine to get in the zone. And I can’t go without my pre-race playlist! So, what’s next for you, Jake? Any big goals on the horizon?

Jake Magahey: I’m aiming to make a strong impact at the NCAA Championships and then set my sights on representing the US in the Olympics. What about you, Katie? What’s next on your agenda?

Katie Ledecky: I’m always looking ahead to the next big meet, but the Olympics are definitely on my radar too. Let’s hope we get to race together soon. Keep pushing, Jake – you’re doing amazing things!

Jake Magahey: Thanks, Katie! You’re a huge inspiration. Let’s make waves!
