In Conversation: Jazz Carlin and Rebecca Adlington

Jazz Carlin: Hey Rebecca, it’s been ages! How have you been coping with life outside the competitive swimming pool?

Rebecca Adlington: Hey Jazz! It’s lovely to chat. It’s been quite the shift, but I’m loving the new pace. How about you? I saw you’ve been all over the place recently.

Jazz Carlin: Oh, you know me, just can’t stay still! I’ve been diving headfirst into coaching, trying to inspire the next generation. It’s oddly fulfilling, don’t you think?

Rebecca Adlington: Absolutely, I feel the same with my swim academy. There’s something magical about seeing young swimmers achieve their goals. Speaking of which, do you miss the thrill of competing?

Jazz Carlin: Sometimes! There’s nothing like the rush of competition. But mentoring young athletes kind of brings that excitement back in a new way. Plus, I get to enjoy my post-swim breakfast without worrying about morning training!

Rebecca Adlington: Haha, that’s a huge perk! I’ve become a bit of a breakfast enthusiast myself. So, what’s your go-to motivational advice for your trainees?

Jazz Carlin: I tell them to embrace every moment in the pool and to remember why they started swimming in the first place. It’s easy to get bogged down by the pressure, but staying connected to their passion is key. What about you?

Rebecca Adlington: I couldn’t agree more. I always encourage them to focus on the journey rather than obsessing over times and medals. The memories and lessons they gain are what truly last.

Jazz Carlin: Spot on! By the way, how do you feel about the evolution of swimming techniques and technology? Isn’t it fascinating how things keep progressing?

Rebecca Adlington: Totally! It’s incredible to see innovative coaching methods and the advancements in swimwear. I sometimes wonder how different our careers might have been with these tools. But, it also makes me excited for the younger athletes who can benefit from it all.

Jazz Carlin: Seriously! It’s like watching the sport transform right before our eyes. Speaking of transformations, any new ventures or projects on your horizon?

Rebecca Adlington: Actually, yes! I’m working on a new series of workshops aimed at mental resilience for swimmers. It’s such an overlooked aspect, and I want to bring more awareness to it.

Jazz Carlin: That sounds amazing and so necessary! Let’s definitely catch up more on that. Maybe we can collaborate on something; I’ve got a few ideas brewing too.

Rebecca Adlington: That would be brilliant, Jazz. Let’s make it happen! It’s always great chatting with you, so much positive energy. Until next time?

Jazz Carlin: Absolutely, Rebecca. Let’s get this rolling and inspire even more swimmers together! Catch you later!
