A Courtside Chat: Kirk Hinrich and Scottie Pippen
Scottie Pippen: Hey, Kirk! Good to see you, man. How’ve you been holding up? Life post-basketball treating you alright?
Kirk Hinrich: Scottie, great to see you! It’s been a ride, that’s for sure. Adjusting to not having a game schedule is a challenge, but it’s been fantastic spending more time with family. How about you?
Scottie Pippen: Oh, you know, staying busy with commentating, business ventures, and a little coaching here and there. Speaking of coaching, have you thought about diving into that world?
Kirk Hinrich: Funny you mention that. I’ve been dabbling in it. I’m currently working with some youth teams. It’s fulfilling to pass on the knowledge and see those kids develop their love for the game, just like we did.
Scottie Pippen: That’s incredible, man! Nothing beats seeing the next generation grow. Do you find the youngsters these days resonate with the same style of play we had back in the day?
Kirk Hinrich: It’s a mixed bag, honestly. They’re definitely more attuned to the three-point era, but I make sure they appreciate solid defense and good decision-making. I guess you can say, a little “Kirk Hinrich” touch to their game.
Scottie Pippen: (laughs) That’s the way to do it! Speaking of defense, you were known for your gritty play. Looking back, who was the toughest assignment you ever had?
Kirk Hinrich: Tough one. Guarding players like Kobe Bryant and Allen Iverson was always a battle. They could just light up the scoreboard. But, it also made me better. How about you, Scottie? Ever miss those “Michael vs. Scottie” debates?
Scottie Pippen: (laughs) Oh, those were the days! We had our fun. But honestly, those days taught me that basketball is as much about teamwork as it is about individual brilliance. By the way, I heard you still shoot hoops for fun. Any truth to that?
Kirk Hinrich: Guilty as charged! Can’t keep me away from the court for too long. It’s in the blood. And it’s a great way to stay in shape. Do you ever join in some pickup games?
Scottie Pippen: Occasionally, just to show these young bucks how it’s done. Plus, it’s a great reminder that this game we love is timeless. Kirk, always a pleasure catching up with you.
Kirk Hinrich: The pleasure’s all mine, Scottie. Let’s do this more often. Maybe next time, we’ll add a few more of the old crew to the conversation.
Scottie Pippen: Absolutely. Take care, buddy!
Kirk Hinrich: You too, Scottie!
