A Casual Chat with Lloyd Harris and Roger Federer

Roger: Hey Lloyd! Great to catch up with you. Man, you’ve really been turning heads on the tour lately. How’s life on and off the court?

Lloyd: Thanks, Roger! It’s been a whirlwind, to be honest. Balancing the practice sessions with matches has left me on an adrenaline high. But it’s all part of the ride, right? How’s retirement treating you?

Roger: Retirement’s been good. More family time and I’ve even started dabbling in some other ventures. Yet, I do miss the roar of the crowd and the competition. What’s been the most surprising part of the pro tour for you so far?

Lloyd: The unpredictability of it all, really. One day you’re playing on an outside court, and the next thing you know, you’re challenging the top guys in packed stadiums. It keeps you on your toes, for sure. I’ve learned to embrace the unpredictability.

Roger: Absolutely! That unpredictability is what makes the sport so thrilling. Any favorite moments or career highlights that stand out for you?

Lloyd: For sure, getting to the quarterfinals in Dubai was huge for me. Playing and beating some of the higher-ranked guys was a major confidence boost. And whenever I get to represent South Africa, it’s a whole different level of pride.

Roger: That Dubai run was impressive, no doubt! And representing your country – there’s nothing quite like it. Which aspects of your game are you focusing on right now to take it to the next level?

Lloyd: Definitely working on my serve and volley game. In today’s baseline-dominated matches, mixing it up is essential. Plus, I’ve been putting in extra hours on my fitness. It feels like tennis players are becoming all-round athletes these days, don’t you think?

Roger: Oh, absolutely. The game has evolved so much. Physical fitness and versatility are key. I remember when I started, it was more serve-and-volley vs. baseline battles. Nowadays, it’s a mix of everything. By the way, any off-court hobbies helping you relax and reset?

Lloyd: I’m into photography, actually. Capturing moments and places helps me unwind. And, of course, you can never go wrong with some PlayStation sessions with the guys. It’s all about balance!

Roger: Photography? That’s awesome. Maybe you can snap a few of my backhand in action sometime! Balancing tennis with personal life is super important. Any tour travel tips for the rookies out there?

Lloyd: Haha, I’d love to capture that iconic backhand! For travel, I’d say, pack smart and light. And always have a good pair of noise-canceling headphones. It makes long flights bearable. Stay curious about new places – it’s all part of the adventure.

Roger: Great advice, Lloyd. Love the passion and energy you bring. Keep pushing those boundaries. The sky’s the limit for you!

Lloyd: Thanks, Roger. It means a lot coming from you. Looking forward to sharing more courtside moments with you, on or off the field. Cheers!
