A Splashed Conversation Between Yana Klochkova and Michael Phelps

Michael Phelps: Yana! It’s been ages since we last caught up. How have you been keeping the currents flowing?

Yana Klochkova: Michael! It’s great to see you. I’ve been staying busy, trying to dive into new adventures outside the pool. What about you?

Michael Phelps: Same here. Besides training, I’m working with various organizations to promote mental health awareness. It’s been incredibly fulfilling. But tell me, have you been dipping back into the waters at all?

Yana Klochkova: Occasionally, yes! Once a swimmer, always a swimmer, right? But mostly, I’ve been focusing on mentoring young athletes back home. It’s rewarding to share my experiences and see the next generation rise.

Michael Phelps: That’s awesome. Passing the torch is crucial. What’s the vibe like with the upcoming Ukrainian swimmers?

Yana Klochkova: They’re super enthusiastic and driven, despite the challenging times. There’s a strong spirit present. I think they just need that spark of guidance to reach greater heights.

Michael Phelps: And you’re providing just that, Yana. I’ve always admired your dedication. What’s the most common piece of advice you find yourself giving them?

Yana Klochkova: I always tell them to embrace the journey—the highs and lows. Perseverance is key. Oh, and never underestimate the power of your mental game. I’ve learned that from some pretty amazing folks… you included.

Michael Phelps: Haha, thanks, Yana. Mental strength is indeed a game-changer. On that note, how do you keep your mindset positive these days?

Yana Klochkova: Yoga and a good balance of rest and work. And lots of quality time with family. It keeps me grounded and rejuvenated. What about you?

Michael Phelps: Very similar. Meditation has been my go-to, along with spending time with the family. And, of course, keeping active in some way or another.

Yana Klochkova: It sounds like we’re both doing well outside of our competitive chapters. Fun question—if we had to relay together, which stroke would you take?

Michael Phelps: Oh, that’s a tough one! I’d probably go with butterfly, diving in headfirst. And you?

Yana Klochkova: Freestyle, no doubt. Perfect for the grand finale splash finish! This sounds like a dream team already.

Michael Phelps: Absolutely! Here’s to future adventures, both in and out of the water. Cheers, Yana!

Yana Klochkova: Cheers, Michael! Until next time.
