In the Ring with Mikey Garcia: A Conversation with Joe Rogan
Joe Rogan: Ladies and gentlemen, today we’ve got a special guest in the house, the one and only Mikey Garcia! Mikey, it’s a pleasure to have you here. What’s up, champ?
Mikey Garcia: Thanks, Joe! It’s awesome to be here. Always a fan of your show. Let’s get into it!
Joe Rogan: Oh, we will. So, Mikey, you’ve had one hell of a career. From dominating multiple weight classes to putting on some unforgettable fights. Looking back, what’s been the most defining moment for you?
Mikey Garcia: Man, that’s a tough one. I’d say winning the WBC world title at featherweight was huge. That fight against Orlando Salido in 2013 – it was like everything I’d worked for crystallized in that moment. But honestly, every fight shapes you in some way.
Joe Rogan: For sure, I can imagine. Switching gears a bit, you’ve always been known for your technical precision in the ring. How do you think your fighting style compares to others in the current boxing scene?
Mikey Garcia: I think my style is all about smart aggression, you know? It’s not just about power or speed but outthinking your opponent, picking the right moment to strike. I see a lot of young fighters coming up with that same mentality now, which is great to see.
Joe Rogan: Absolutely. Speaking of young fighters, any up-and-comers you’ve got your eye on? Someone you think could be the next Mikey Garcia?
Mikey Garcia: Oh, there’s a lot of talent. But if I had to name one, I’d say Ryan Garcia. No relation, by the way! [laughs] The kid’s got speed, power, and charisma. He’s definitely one to watch.
Joe Rogan: That’s high praise! So, tell me, Mikey, what’s next for you? Any plans inside or outside the ring?
Mikey Garcia: Well, Joe, I’ve been focusing on staying in shape and keeping my options open. Boxing’s in my blood, but I’m also looking at ways to give back, maybe coaching or running a gym. And who knows, you might see me make another run in the ring. The fire’s still there.
Joe Rogan: That’s what we love to hear! Last question before I let you go, Mikey. What advice do you have for those aspiring fighters out there grinding away in the gym, dreaming of making it big?
Mikey Garcia: Stay disciplined, stay focused, and never stop learning. Boxing’s as much mental as it is physical. Listen to your coaches, study the greats, and remember, it’s the small details that can make the biggest difference. Keep your passion burning and give it your all.
Joe Rogan: Powerful words, man. Thanks so much for joining us today, Mikey. It’s been a real pleasure talking to you.
Mikey Garcia: Anytime, Joe. Thanks for having me. Stay safe, everyone!
