A Casual Beachside Chat: Caio Ibelli & Kelly Slater

Kelly Slater: Hey Caio! How’s it going, man? I see you’ve been tearing up some serious waves lately.

Caio Ibelli: Kelly! It’s always good to catch up with you. Yeah, the swell’s been pretty epic. Been trying to push my limits, you know?

Kelly Slater: Absolutely! I saw that insane air you pulled off at Bells Beach. How do you even prep for something like that?

Caio Ibelli: Ha, thanks! It’s a lot of trial and error, honestly. I spend a lot of time visualizing the move and working on my core strength. Plus, my surfboard shaper has been a magician with my board lately.

Kelly Slater: Definitely makes a difference when you’ve got the right equipment. Speaking of boards, are you still riding that custom model you designed?

Caio Ibelli: Yep, still riding it! It’s been a game-changer. Got a few tweaks for maneuverability, and it’s perfect for my style. You know how it is, finding that perfect board can feel like finding a unicorn!

Kelly Slater: For sure. And how’s the travel been? I remember when I was constantly on the go; it can take a toll on you. Have you found a good balance?

Caio Ibelli: It’s been a wild ride, but I love it. I think having a solid routine, even on the road, has helped a ton. Plus, I’ve got a great team around me to keep things grounded.

Kelly Slater: That’s key. Speaking of team, how about sharing a funny travel story? Something the fans wouldn’t know.

Caio Ibelli: Oh man, there are so many! One time in Tahiti, my team and I got our gear mixed up with a local fisherman’s. We ended up with fishing nets instead of our wetsuits! Had to borrow some gear from fellow surfers that day. It was hilarious!

Kelly Slater: (Laughs) That’s classic. It’s those moments that keep the journey interesting. Any big goals for this season?

Caio Ibelli: Definitely aiming for a top finish in the Championship Tour. But more than that, just want to keep improving and inspiring the next generation of surfers. What about you, Kelly? Any new ventures on the horizon?

Kelly Slater: Always something brewing, you know me! Working on a couple of environmental projects and, of course, staying active in the surfing community. It’s all about giving back now.

Caio Ibelli: That’s awesome, man. Always leading the way. Well, here’s to catching more epic waves and driving positive change. Cheers, Kelly!

Kelly Slater: Cheers, Caio! Keep shredding out there!
