David Pastrňák Sits Down for a Chat with Hockey Legend Wayne Gretzky

David Pastrňák: Thanks for doing this, Wayne! It’s always amazing to talk with one of the greatest ever to play the game.

Wayne Gretzky: The pleasure is mine, David. I’ve been watching you play, and you remind me so much of those adrenaline-filled days on the ice. What’s been your favorite moment so far in your career?

David Pastrňák: Oh man, tough one! I’d say signing that big extension with the Bruins was a huge moment. But honestly, the thrill of scoring my first career hat trick is something I’ll never forget. Especially with the crowd just going wild!

Wayne Gretzky: Ah, the hat trick! There’s nothing like seeing those hats rain down on the ice. Speaking of which, your style—handling the puck, those lightning-fast shots—anyone you looked up to growing up? Anyone’s game you tried to emulate?

David Pastrňák: You mean besides you? (laughs) No, seriously, Jagr was a big one for me. Growing up in the Czech Republic, he was our hero. Seeing how he trained and his work ethic was just something else.

Wayne Gretzky: Jagr’s dedication was unparalleled. Speaking of dedication, what’s a part of your practice routine that you think sets you apart?

David Pastrňák: You know, it’s all about the details. I focus a lot on my shot accuracy and speed—every single practice. And probably my off-ice training helps. I think a lot of people underestimate how important it is to keep your body in top shape off the ice too.

Wayne Gretzky: Couldn’t agree more. It’s about the whole package. So, when you’re not on the ice or training, how do you unwind? Any hobbies we’d be surprised to know about?

David Pastrňák: Oh, I’m a pretty chill guy. I love music, actually. Big into playing guitar. I’ve got a few buddies who are musicians, and we’ll jam out sometimes. It’s a great way to take my mind off things. You?

Wayne Gretzky: Believe it or not, I’m a total history buff. I love reading about different historical events and figures. It’s fascinating! But don’t worry, I sneak in the occasional movie night with my family.

David Pastrňák: Now that’s cool, never would’ve guessed. Alright, one last question before we wrap up—any advice you’d give to young hockey players dreaming of making it to the NHL?

Wayne Gretzky: Work hard, stay humble, and never stop learning. The game is always evolving, and adaptability is key. And of course, don’t forget to enjoy every moment. That passion you bring to the ice is what will carry you through the highs and lows.

David Pastrňák: Thanks, Wayne. Wise words from The Great One! Always a pleasure to chat with you.

Wayne Gretzky: Anytime, David. Keep dazzling us out there!
