Locker Room Chat: Elias Pettersson and Henrik Sedin Discuss the NHL and Swedish Roots

Elias Pettersson: Henrik! Long time no see. How’s retirement treating you?

Henrik Sedin: Elias, it’s great! Plenty of time to focus on family and, you know, I’m still around the rink a lot. How about you? How’s the season going?

Elias Pettersson: It’s been a rollercoaster, but we’re pushing hard. Still lots of hockey left to play. By the way, any tips on carrying the team through those tight spots?

Henrik Sedin: (laughs) Oh, the classic captain’s dilemma. Always believe in your team. Communication is key, and you’ve got to trust your linemates. Daniel and I always had that twin connection, but it’s all about building that same level of understanding with your teammates.

Elias Pettersson: I hear you. Speaking of connections, what was it like playing with your brother so closely? Any sibling rivalry that spilled onto the ice?

Henrik Sedin: Surprisingly no. We had our moments growing up, like any brothers, but on the ice, it was pure synergy. We knew each other’s moves without thinking. You and Brock Boeser seem to have a nice rhythm going—almost like a Swedish-American Sedin duo! (winks)

Elias Pettersson: (laughs) Well, we’re getting there. Hey, what’s it like transitioning out of the NHL? Do you miss the speed, the crowd, the competition?

Henrik Sedin: Absolutely, I miss it all, especially the crowd energy and the locker room camaraderie. But it’s a new chapter. Now, I get to watch young stars like you light up the ice. And coaching has its own rewards. What about you? Any future goals beyond hockey?

Elias Pettersson: That’s a tough one. I’m so focused on my career right now. But I’ve thought about coaching or even getting into some business ventures back in Sweden. For now, though, I just want to keep getting better and help bring the Cup to Vancouver.

Henrik Sedin: And you’re well on your way, Elias. Just keep that passion burning. Vancouver’s lucky to have you. Speaking of which, you have any pre-game rituals that get you in the zone?

Elias Pettersson: Oh, you know, the usual: same meal, same playlist, and always a few minutes of visualization before heading out. What about you? Did you have any quirky routines?

Henrik Sedin: Totally. Pre-game pasta, a quick nap, and always putting on equipment in the exact same order. Hockey players are superstitious, aren’t we?

Elias Pettersson: (laughs) Absolutely. Well, Henrik, it’s been awesome catching up. Thanks for the insights, really appreciate it. Let’s grab a coffee sometime soon.

Henrik Sedin: Anytime, Elias. Keep making us Swedes proud!
