In Conversation with James van Riemsdyk: Catching Up with Teammate Kevin Hayes

Kevin Hayes: All right, JVR! One-on-one at last. Got a moment to catch up? How’s it going, man?

James van Riemsdyk: Hey, Kev! Always got time for you, buddy. It’s been pretty good—just trying to soak up these last few weeks before the season gets really intense. How about you?

Kevin Hayes: Same here, just hanging in there. Speaking of soaking up, you still keeping up with those beach volleyball games? You were always pretty intense out there.

James van Riemsdyk: Ha, you know it! Gotta get my competitive fix somehow in the off-season. There’s just something about that sand and sun, man. Plus, it’s great cross-training. Nothing like spiking a volleyball to blow off some steam.

Kevin Hayes: Dude, that makes sense. Plus, it’s probably easier to convince the family to hit the beach than to watch us run drills, right?

James van Riemsdyk: Oh, 100%. It’s family-friendly all the way. Speaking of which, how’s your crew doing? Any summer adventures?

Kevin Hayes: Man, you wouldn’t believe it. We took a road trip up the coast—hit all those classic spots. My little niece caught her first fish, and she hasn’t stopped talking about it. I’m pretty sure she thinks she’s the next big pro angler.

James van Riemsdyk: That’s awesome! Nothing like seeing the kids get excited about something new. Sounds like a trip to remember.

Kevin Hayes: For sure, dude. By the way, I’ve been hearing a lot about your new partnership initiatives. You’ve always been big on giving back. Got anything exciting in the pipeline?

James van Riemsdyk: Glad you asked! Actually, I’m really pumped about a youth skills clinic I’m co-hosting with some other guys from the league. It’s focused on making hockey more accessible to kids who wouldn’t normally have the opportunity. You know, trying to grow the game and give everyone a fair shot. You in for a guest appearance?

Kevin Hayes: Count me in, man. Anything for the kids and the future of the sport. Plus, it’s always a blast seeing their faces when they realize they’re getting tips from the pros.

James van Riemsdyk: Exactly! It’s what it’s all about. Anyway, we should definitely catch up more often, maybe even get the guys together for a game of beach volleyball. What do you say?

Kevin Hayes: I’m all in, buddy. Let’s make it happen!

James van Riemsdyk: Deal! Until then, take care, Kev.

Kevin Hayes: You too, JVR. Catch you later!
