Jon Rahm Talks Golf and Life with Justin Thomas
Jon Rahm: Hey Justin, isn’t it wild to think about how much our lives revolve around this little white ball?
Justin Thomas: (laughing) Absolutely, Jon! It’s crazy how something so small can completely dictate where we travel, what we eat, and sometimes even our mood.
Jon Rahm: Speaking of travel, where’s been your favorite place to play this year?
Justin Thomas: Oh man, that’s a tough one. I’d say Hawaii for the Sentry Tournament of Champions. I mean, start the year playing golf in paradise? It’s hard to beat.
Jon Rahm: No kidding. Plus, it doubles as a bit of a mini-vacation. I’ve always enjoyed playing there too. How do you handle the balance between playing professionally and making sure you enjoy everything outside of golf?
Justin Thomas: Great question. I think it’s about perspective. Golf is a huge part of our lives, but it’s just that—a part. I try to soak in the local culture, food, and just the general feel of the place wherever I go. That keeps things exciting and fresh.
Jon Rahm: Absolutely, I’m the same way. My wife, Kelley, and I are big foodies, so we always make a point to explore local cuisine whenever we get the chance. Getting away from the course for a bit and indulging in some good food is the perfect way to recharge.
Justin Thomas: What’s one dish you’ve tried that you’d never forget?
Jon Rahm: Oh, that’s easy. We were in Japan and tried this sushi at this little-known spot recommended by a local. The freshness, the precision – it was an experience!
Justin Thomas: Definitely putting that on my bucket list! By the way, how’s your family coping with your schedule? Must be tough sometimes.
Jon Rahm: It can be, but we make it work. Kelley is incredible; she understands the demands of the tour and we always plan quality family time. With our son Kepa now, I cherish every moment I can spend with him. He’s already pointing at the TV and saying “Dada!” when golf is on.
Justin Thomas: That’s adorable! Family really does keep you grounded. Speaking of grounding, how do you stay mentally tough when things aren’t going your way on the course? Any rituals?
Jon Rahm: I have my routines. Deep breathing helps. Talking to myself mentally to keep things in perspective. And sometimes, just thinking about my family and what truly matters off the course. It helps to keep the pressure manageable.
Justin Thomas: Great advice. It’s all about staying positive and keeping the big picture in mind. And hey, always good to chat with a friend who understands the grind.
Jon Rahm: Absolutely, Justin. Here’s to more great rounds and awesome experiences both on and off the course!
Justin Thomas: Cheers to that, Jon!
