Riding the Waves and Beyond: Laura Enever Chats with Kelly Slater
Laura Enever: Hey Kelly! It’s amazing to finally sit down and chat with you. How’s it going?
Kelly Slater: Laura, great to see you! I’m doing well, thanks. Just came back from a gnarly session in Bali. You know how those waves are, can’t get enough!
Laura: Oh, Bali is such a gem. I might have to paddle out there soon. Speaking of waves, your experience at Pipeline is legendary. What’s going through your mind when you’re out there, carving those monster waves?
Kelly: Pipeline is a beast, for sure. It’s intense but exhilarating. The key is to stay focused and respect the ocean. The energy it holds is something else. But hey, I’ve seen you slay some serious waves too, especially during those Big Wave Tour events. How do you prepare for that?
Laura: Preparing for big waves is all about mental and physical conditioning. I do a lot of breath-hold training and work on my strength and flexibility. The ocean’s unpredictability keeps me on my toes, but it’s also what makes it so thrilling, right?
Kelly: Absolutely! The unpredictability is what keeps it interesting and challenging. So, what’s next for you? Any exciting projects in the pipeline?
Laura: Funny you should ask. I’m actually working on a documentary that showcases the power and beauty of the ocean, and how surfers connect with it. Plus, a few more surf competitions are on my list. What about you? Any new ventures outside of surfing?
Kelly: Your documentary sounds epic! As for me, I’m focusing a lot on sustainability projects. We need to protect our oceans for future generations of surfers. Also, been jamming on my guitar a bit more lately – it’s a nice way to unwind.
Laura: That’s awesome, Kelly. Music and the ocean, what a perfect combo! Maybe you can write a surf anthem one day. Anyway, I’ve got to hit the waves now; they’re calling my name. Catch you in the lineup!
Kelly: For sure, Laura. Keep shredding, and I’ll see you out there. Take care!
