An Enlightening Chat with Louis Oosthuizen and Ernie Els
Louis Oosthuizen: Hey Ernie, it’s always a pleasure catching up with you. Feels like ages since our last round together. How have things been on your end?
Ernie Els: Louis, mate! It has been too long. I’m doing well, just busy with some course designs and spending time with the family. How about you? How’s the farm life treating you?
Louis Oosthuizen: Oh, you know me. Can’t stay away from my tractors for too long! (laughs) Seriously though, the farm has been great. It’s a nice break from the tour life. How’s the golf course design business going?
Ernie Els: It’s picking up, actually. There’s something special about creating a course and then seeing golfers enjoy it. I heard you’ve been dabbling a bit in wine lately. How’s that venture coming along?
Louis Oosthuizen: Ah, it’s been an interesting journey. Wine making is a bit like golf; you need a lot of patience and attention to detail. But it’s rewarding when you see the final product. You should come over sometime and have a taste of our latest batch.
Ernie Els: I’d love that! Maybe we can make a day of it – a bit of wine tasting after a round of golf at your local course. Speaking of which, how’s your practice routine these days?
Louis Oosthuizen: It’s a balance, you know? I try to get in solid practice sessions whenever I can, but I also make sure to enjoy the other passions in my life. How do you manage to keep your game sharp while working on so many different projects?
Ernie Els: For me, it’s all about time management and setting priorities. I always find time for family and a bit of practice. And when it comes to tournaments, I make sure I’m as prepared as I can be. Do you ever feel like you have to choose between farming and golfing?
Louis Oosthuizen: Sometimes, but I’ve found a rhythm that works. The farm gives me a mental break from the competition grind. And when I’m on the course, I’m fully focused on my game. It’s a good balance. What advice would you give to young golfers trying to juggle their passions and their careers?
Ernie Els: I’d say, never lose sight of what you love. Pursuing multiple passions can actually enhance your primary career. And always remember, golf is a marathon, not a sprint. Keep at it, stay patient, and enjoy the journey. Sounds like you’re already living by that philosophy.
Louis Oosthuizen: Thanks, Ernie. That means a lot coming from you. Here’s to finding joy both on and off the course. Next time, we’ll definitely get in that round and share a glass of wine. Cheers!
Ernie Els: Absolutely, Louis. Cheers to that!
