Inside the Winning Mindset: A Conversation with Moriya Jutanugarn and Lydia Ko
Moriya Jutanugarn: Hey Lydia! It’s great to finally catch up. How have you been?
Lydia Ko: Hey Moriya, I’ve been good! The tour’s been keeping me busy, as usual. I’ve seen you’ve been on fire lately. What’s your secret?
Moriya Jutanugarn: Haha, thanks! No real secret, just a lot of hard work and staying focused. You know how it is. But seriously, having my sister Ariya around for support has been a game changer.
Lydia Ko: Oh, absolutely. Having family close by can be a real morale booster. Speaking of which, do you two ever get super competitive with each other?
Moriya Jutanugarn: All the time! But it’s friendly competition. We push each other to be better without getting too serious about it. It’s a healthy balance.
Lydia Ko: That’s awesome. So, what does a typical practice day look like for you?
Moriya Jutanugarn: My day usually starts early with some stretching and light cardio. Then I hit the range for a few hours, focusing on my swing, followed by a session on the putting green. Afternoons are usually reserved for a round on the course to apply what I practiced.
Lydia Ko: Sounds intense! Do you ever take time to just relax and have fun?
Moriya Jutanugarn: For sure! I love exploring new cities when we travel, trying out local food, and sometimes just unwinding with a good book or Netflix. How about you?
Lydia Ko: Pretty similar, actually. I love cooking, so I try to find local recipes to recreate. And binge-watching shows is a guilty pleasure. Have you seen anything good lately?
Moriya Jutanugarn: I just finished ‘Ted Lasso’—so good! It’s such a feel-good series. Any recommendations from you?
Lydia Ko: I’m all about ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ right now. The drama, the chess—it’s so captivating. You should give it a try!
Moriya Jutanugarn: Definitely adding that to my list. By the way, any big goals you’re setting your sights on this season?
Lydia Ko: I’m aiming to improve my consistency, especially in the majors. And maybe sneak in a win or two, if all goes well. What about you?
Moriya Jutanugarn: Those sound like solid goals. For me, I’m focusing on my mental game, staying confident under pressure, and of course, aiming for that top spot in a few more tournaments.
Lydia Ko: You’ve got this, Moriya. Here’s to an amazing season for both of us!
Moriya Jutanugarn: Cheers to that, Lydia! Let’s make it our best one yet.
