An Engaging Chat with Walker Buehler: A Pitcher’s Perspective

Interviewer: Hey Walker, thanks for joining us today! How’s life on and off the mound treating you?

Walker Buehler: It’s been great! Just enjoying the game and trying to get better every day. Off the mound, life’s a mix of travel, training, and a bit of relaxing when I get the chance. How about you, everything good on your end?

Interviewer: Absolutely! Speaking of getting better, you’ve become known for your powerful fastball. How do you keep it so effective throughout the long season?

Walker Buehler: It all comes down to consistency and maintenance. I have a strict routine in terms of workouts and recovery. I also make sure to study a lot of film to understand both my pitches and the hitters I’m facing. It’s a mix of physical and mental prep.

Interviewer: Sounds like you’re quite the student of the game. Speaking of mental prep, do you have a specific mindset or any rituals before you step on the mound?

Walker Buehler: Definitely. I usually take a few moments to visualize how I want the game to go. I focus on my breathing to stay calm and stay present. I also have some music that pumps me up. It’s all about getting into that zone.

Interviewer: Interesting! Any particular track or artist that helps fire you up?

Walker Buehler: It varies, but I’m a big fan of hip-hop. Kendrick Lamar, Drake – their beats and lyrics get me into the right headspace. But sometimes, if I need to relax, I might go for some country music. Just depends on the day.

Interviewer: A mix of genres, I like it! Let’s talk a little bit about your downtime. What’s a perfect off-day for Walker Buehler?

Walker Buehler: An ideal off-day? Probably hanging out with friends and family, maybe catching a movie or some kind of event. I also love playing golf – it’s a great way to relax and enjoy some friendly competition.

Interviewer: Golf, huh? Who’s your go-to partner on the golf course?

Walker Buehler: I actually play with some of the guys from the team, like Kershaw. It’s fun to see how competitive we all get, even outside of baseball. And of course, we give each other a hard time, which is all part of the fun.

Interviewer: That sounds like a blast! Last question for you today. What advice would you give to young pitchers looking to make it to the big leagues?

Walker Buehler: I’d say focus on mastering the basics first – command, mechanics, and mindset. Stay consistent with your routines and always be open to learning and adapting. And most importantly, never lose the love for the game. If you keep that passion alive, everything else will follow.

Interviewer: Great advice, Walker. Thanks for the chat and good luck this season!

Walker Buehler: Anytime! Thanks for having me. Catch you at the ballpark!
