An Afternoon Chat with Yannik Paul and Thomas Pieters
Yannik Paul: Hey Thomas! Great to catch up with you finally. How’s everything on your end?
Thomas Pieters: Yannik! It’s been a minute. Things are good over here. Just got back from a tournament in Dubai. How about you? How’s the tour treating you?
Yannik Paul: Oh, you know how it is—lots of travel, lots of golf. Just wrapped up a practice session, and now I’m trying to unwind a bit. Dubai sounds amazing though. How did it go?
Thomas Pieters: It went pretty well, actually. Managed to finish in the top 10, so I can’t complain. The course over there is just something else. So challenging but rewarding.
Yannik Paul: Top 10, nice! I’ve been wanting to play there. Heard the greens are incredibly fast. Kind of makes your putting skills really come into play, doesn’t it?
Thomas Pieters: Exactly! You’ve got to have your A-game when it comes to putting on those greens. Speaking of which, I noticed your putting has been on point lately. What’s the secret?
Yannik Paul: Ah, thanks for noticing! Honestly, just a lot of focused practice and really getting into the zone. Visualization has helped me a lot recently, just picturing the ball dropping into the hole even before I take my shot. Been working with my coach on that.
Thomas Pieters: That’s a great tip. I might have to borrow that mental strategy. By the way, I heard you’re doing a lot of fitness training these days. How’s that going?
Yannik Paul: Oh man, it’s been intense but so worth it. I teamed up with a personal trainer who focuses on golfers, and we’ve been working on strength and flexibility. It’s amazing how much a solid fitness routine can impact your game.
Thomas Pieters: No kidding! I’ve been considering something similar. Keeping in top shape really does make a difference, especially when you’ve got back-to-back tournaments. Any advice for someone looking to get started on that path?
Yannik Paul: Start small and build up. It’s tempting to go all in right away, but the key is sustainability. Focus on core strength and flexibility. Yoga has surprisingly been awesome for recovery too. But hey, you’ve got the athleticism already, just fine-tuning it would do wonders.
Thomas Pieters: Noted! I’ll definitely give it a go. By the way, any upcoming tournaments you’re particularly excited about?
Yannik Paul: Definitely looking forward to the BMW International Open. It’s in Germany, so it’s always great to play back home with the local crowd cheering you on. What about you?
Thomas Pieters: That sounds fantastic! For me, probably the Scottish Open. Love the challenge of links courses and the unpredictable weather adds a layer of excitement.
Yannik Paul: Absolutely, those links courses can be quite the test! Well, Thomas, it’s been great catching up with you. We should do this more often. Maybe even take our chat to the course next time?
Thomas Pieters: For sure, Yannik! Let’s make it happen. Always great to talk shop with you. Take care and crush it at your next tournament!
Yannik Paul: Will do! You too, Thomas. Catch you soon!
