Inside the Locker Room: A Chat Between Josh Morrissey and Blake Wheeler

Josh Morrissey (JM): Hey Blake, mind if I take a breather next to you? That practice was intense!

Blake Wheeler (BW): Of course, Josh! Grab a seat. Yeah, coach is really pushing us hard this season. The new drills are brutal but effective. How are you holding up?

JM: I’m good, man. Feeling the burn but in a good way. You know how it is! Those turning drills are killer but my pivots have never been this sharp. How about you? Any secret recovery tips for a young guy like me?

BW: (laughs) Well, I’m a fan of a good ice bath followed by some yoga. Flexibility is key, especially as the years go by. How about off the ice? What’s been keeping you busy?

JM: I’ve actually been picking up the guitar again. It’s such a great way to unwind after a long day on the ice. How about yourself? Still got that love for water sports?

BW: Absolutely! The kids and I have been paddleboarding a lot. It’s a perfect way to stay active while clearing the mind. Plus, the balance work helps on the ice too. Any new tunes you’re working on?

JM: Just messing around with some classics. Trying to nail down “Sweet Home Alabama” but my fingers are still getting the hang of it. It’s tougher than it looks! Speaking of balance, you’ve got to teach me that paddleboard trick you do. The one-legged stance?

BW: (grins) Oh, the flamingo pose? Anytime! It’s all in the core strength and focus. We should hit the lake one of these weekends and I’ll show you. Maybe you can bring the guitar and we’ll have a little jam session by the water.

JM: That sounds like a blast! Deal. By the way, have you checked out the new gear we’re getting? The stick feels amazing.

BW: Yeah, the guys in equipment did a top-notch job. It’s like an extension of my arm. Can’t wait to see how it holds up in the games. Speaking of which, any personal goals for this season?

JM: For sure, I’m aiming to break my assist record and work on my defensive game. Plus, maybe drop in a few more goals. What about you, Captain?

BW: Always about leading the team better, on and off the ice. Hoping we can push deeper into the playoffs this year. And hey, with your guitar skills and my paddleboarding, maybe we’ll put on a show for the fans too! (laughs)

JM: (laughs) Sounds like a plan! Let’s make this season one to remember. Now, let’s get out of here before Coach finds another drill for us!

BW: Deal. Catch you later, Josh!
