On the Course with Justin Walters: A Chat with David Feherty
David Feherty: Good afternoon, Justin! Pleasure to have you on. Tell me, how’s the game treating you these days?
Justin Walters: Hey David, thanks for having me. The game has its ups and downs, as you know. But overall, I would say I’m in a good place right now.
David Feherty: I’ve watched you play, and frankly, it’s been quite inspiring. Your resilience is something of legend. What keeps you going on those days when golf feels like a grueling trek up Mount Everest?
Justin Walters: Great question. I think it’s the love for the game combined with the memories of past successes. And, let’s not forget the ever-pressing desire to create new ones. Plus, I draw a lot of strength from my family and the fact that every round is an opportunity to improve.
David Feherty: Speaking of family, your story is quite moving. How do you balance the demands of the tour with your responsibilities back home?
Justin Walters: It’s definitely a challenge, but it’s all about quality over quantity. When I’m home, I make sure to be fully present with my family. Facetime and video calls help bridge the gap when I’m traveling. It’s a juggling act, but a rewarding one.
David Feherty: Let’s talk about pressure for a moment. You’ve had some nerve-wracking finishes in your career. How do you keep your cool when you’re standing over a crucial putt?
Justin Walters: Pressure is part and parcel of the game. I try to focus on the process rather than the outcome. Breathing exercises and visualization techniques have also been incredibly helpful. It’s about training the mind as much as the body. What I tell myself is, ‘Just put the best stroke you can on it and let the rest take care of itself.’
David Feherty: Wise words, indeed. Now, a bit of a fun question—any guilty pleasures when you’re off the course? We all know golfers have their secret indulgences.
Justin Walters: Haha, definitely! I’m a big fan of chocolate. I can’t resist a good piece of dark chocolate after dinner. And Netflix, of course. There’s nothing like a good binge-watch to help unwind after a long day.
David Feherty: Sounds like you’ve got the balance down pat. One last question—if you could give one piece of advice to aspiring golfers, what would it be?
Justin Walters: Consistency is key. Stay dedicated to your practice, but also remember to enjoy the journey. Golf can be frustrating, but it’s also immensely rewarding. Keep pushing, stay patient, and above all, keep it fun.
David Feherty: Fantastic advice, Justin. Thanks for the chat. Here’s to many more birdies on your scorecard!
Justin Walters: Cheers, David. It’s been a pleasure!
