An Enlightening Round of Golf: Rikuya Hoshino and Hideki Matsuyama Chat

Rikuya Hoshino: Hey Hideki, thanks for taking the time to join me today. It’s always a pleasure to play with someone who’s achieved so much in the world of golf.

Hideki Matsuyama: The pleasure is all mine, Rikuya! It’s great to be here with one of Japan’s rising stars. I’ve been following your journey, and I must say, you’ve been making quite a name for yourself!

Rikuya Hoshino: I appreciate that. It’s been a great ride so far, and I’ve learned a lot from players like you. Speaking of which, I’ve been meaning to ask you—how do you stay so calm under pressure? You’ve got that Masters win under your belt, after all.

Hideki Matsuyama: Ah, the secret to staying calm… I think it’s all about preparation and the ability to be in the moment. When you focus on the shot at hand, everything else just becomes noise. Plus, meditation and visualization techniques really help too.

Rikuya Hoshino: I’ll need to incorporate more of that into my routine. My coach has been pushing for it, but sometimes it’s tough, you know? I’m always eager to get out on the course and play. Speaking of which, what’s one thing you wish you knew at the start of your career?

Hideki Matsuyama: That’s a great question. I think I’d tell my younger self to be patient and trust the process. Golf is a game of ups and downs, and sometimes, it’s easy to get discouraged. But consistency and perseverance are key. How about you? What’s been your biggest learning so far?

Rikuya Hoshino: Definitely learning to manage my expectations. Early on, I used to get really frustrated with every little mistake. But now, I understand that golf is just as much a mental game as it is physical. The real growth happens when you learn to brush off the bad shots and focus on the next one.

Hideki Matsuyama: Couldn’t agree more. Anyway, it’s inspiring to see your journey. I’m excited to watch how your career unfolds. Who knows, maybe we’ll see each other at the top of a major leaderboard soon!

Rikuya Hoshino: That would be incredible! Let’s make it a goal. Until then, let’s focus on beating each other on this course today—may the best man win!

Hideki Matsuyama: You’re on! Let’s tee off and have some fun out there.
