A Casual Chat with Alek Thomas: Baseball Dreams and Big Leagues Realities

Interviewer (Jane): Hey Alek! It’s great to have you here. How’s everything going with you?

Alek Thomas: Hey Jane, thanks for having me! Things are going really well. Just wrapped up some training, and I’m excited about the upcoming season. How about you?

Jane: I’m doing great, thanks! So, let’s dive in. You’ve had quite a journey to the big leagues. What was it like growing up with baseball practically in your DNA?

Alek: Oh, it was awesome. My dad worked for the White Sox, so I was always around the game. I spent countless hours at the ballpark and in the backyard working on my skills. Baseball was definitely more than just a sport in our household; it was a way of life.

Jane: That sounds incredible. Do you think having that early exposure gave you a leg up in your career?

Alek: Absolutely. It made me fall in love with the game early on, and it taught me a lot about the discipline and hard work required to succeed. Plus, having access to some of the best facilities didn’t hurt either! [laughs]

Jane: [laughs] Right! Speaking of hard work, what part of your game have you been focusing on the most recently?

Alek: Lately, I’ve been really zeroing in on my hitting mechanics and mental approach at the plate. Consistency is key, and I’m always looking for ways to get better and help the team win.

Jane: That sounds like a solid plan. Now, switching gears a bit – what do you like to do when you’re not playing or training? Any hobbies or interests?

Alek: I’m a pretty laid-back guy. I love spending time outdoors – hiking, fishing, anything that gets me out in nature. And of course, I’m a bit of a video game junkie. It’s a great way to unwind and connect with friends.

Jane: Nice! What’s your go-to game at the moment?

Alek: Lately, I’ve been hooked on “Call of Duty.” It’s intense but a lot of fun. It also keeps the competitive spirit alive off the field.

Jane: I’ll bet! Last question for you, Alek: What advice would you give to young aspiring baseball players dreaming of making it to the big leagues?

Alek: I’d say never stop dreaming, but also never underestimate the importance of hard work. Stay dedicated, be patient, and take every opportunity to learn from those around you. And most importantly, enjoy the game. The joy you find in playing is what will drive you forward.

Jane: Wise words, indeed. Thanks so much, Alek. It’s been great chatting with you!

Alek: My pleasure, Jane. Talk to you soon!
