In Conversation with Brian Lopes and Nino Schurter: A Mountain Biking Face-off
Brian Lopes: Hey Nino! Great to finally catch up with you. How’s the Swiss Champ holding up these days?
Nino Schurter: (laughs) Brian! It’s been a while. I’m doing great, man. Training hard and loving every trail I can find. How about you?
Brian Lopes: Living the dream as always. You know me, can’t stay off the bike. Just did this crazy descent yesterday that totally put my skills to the test. Have you been trying out any new trails lately?
Nino Schurter: Absolutely. Just tackled one of the new Alpine stretches last week. The scenery, the technical bits… it was perfect. You’d love it.
Brian Lopes: That sounds epic! Speaking of which, do you remember that race we did in Whistler a few years back? Man, that was a game-changer.
Nino Schurter: Oh, for sure! Whistler was intense. The crowd, the track, the adrenaline — unforgettable. You just don’t get that exact vibe anywhere else.
Brian Lopes: Couldn’t agree more. It’s those moments that keep us pushing, right? By the way, I heard you’ve been developing a new line of trails in Switzerland. What’s that about?
Nino Schurter: Yeah, I’ve been working with some local groups to create more rider-friendly and challenging trails. The goal is to attract more international bikers. Plus, it’s a great way to give back to the community that’s supported me all these years.
Brian Lopes: That’s awesome. Always good to see pros like you investing in the sport’s future. Any chance you’ll invite an old speedster like me for a test ride?
Nino Schurter: (laughs) Of course, Brian! It would be an honor. Besides, it’d be fun to see if you still got those superhuman reflexes of yours!
Brian Lopes: Challenge accepted! But don’t be surprised if I give you a run for your money. (winks)
Nino Schurter: Wouldn’t expect anything less from you. Here’s to many more trails and races ahead, buddy. Cheers!
Brian Lopes: Cheers, Nino. Let’s keep pushing the limits!
