Brooklyn Moors and Laurie Hernandez: Chasing Dreams and Inspiring the Next Generation
Brooklyn Moors: Hey Laurie! First of all, it’s so awesome to finally get to chat with you. You’ve always been such an inspiration to me.
Laurie Hernandez: Brooklyn! It’s great to chat with you too. I’ve loved watching your journey in gymnastics. Your floor routines are just magical!
Brooklyn Moors: That means a lot coming from you. So, how have you been balancing everything post-Olympics? You seem like you’re always up to something new and exciting.
Laurie Hernandez: Oh, you know how it is – it’s a juggling act! Between training, speaking engagements, and even dabbling in TV, it’s a whirlwind. But it’s so much fun. How about you? What’s been keeping you busy when you’re not nailing perfect scores?
Brooklyn Moors: Haha, I wish perfect scores were a regular thing! Lately, it’s just been a whole lot of training and working with my coaches on new skills. Plus, I’ve been spending some time mentoring younger gymnasts. It’s really rewarding.
Laurie Hernandez: That’s amazing. Mentorship is so important, especially in gymnastics. We need to support each other. What’s one piece of advice you always give to the younger ones?
Brooklyn Moors: I always tell them to focus on the process, not the perfection. Gymnastics is about progress and enjoying each step along the way. What about you, Laurie? What’s your golden nugget of wisdom?
Laurie Hernandez: That’s such great advice, Brooklyn. For me, I always emphasize the importance of self-care and mental health. You can’t perform your best if you’re not feeling your best. It’s okay to take breaks and it’s okay to say no sometimes.
Brooklyn Moors: Absolutely. Taking care of ourselves mentally and physically is key. Speaking of breaks, what do you like to do when you’re off the mat?
Laurie Hernandez: I’m a big fan of painting and writing. It’s so therapeutic. What about you? I imagine you have some cool hobbies.
Brooklyn Moors: I love dancing around my room and blasting music. Also, baking! Trying to perfect my chocolate chip cookie recipe has become a mini-obsession. Maybe one day, our hobbies can collide, and we can paint cookies while dancing to music!
Laurie Hernandez: Haha, that sounds like a blast! Let’s do it. We could even make it a fun event for aspiring gymnasts to get involved in and show them that it’s okay to have fun and relax, too.
Brooklyn Moors: I love that idea. It’s all about balance, right? Anyway, thanks for the chat, Laurie. You’re seriously the best!
Laurie Hernandez: Right back at you, Brooklyn. Can’t wait to see what you do next – both in and out of the gym!
And with that, Brooklyn and Laurie continue to inspire, connect, and share their journeys, showing that there’s more to gymnastics than just the flips and tricks. It’s about heart, perseverance, and a whole lot of joy.
