Chad Kerley: Thanks, man! Your words mean a lot. Honestly, every time I think about where BMX is today, I can’t help but appreciate the foundation you and your generation laid down. Speaking of which, got any wild stories from the old days? I heard those early X Games were insane!
Mat Hoffman: Haha, where do I start? Those early days were wild. We didn’t have any idea what we were doing half the time – just making it up as we went along. The first X Games in 1995 was a game-changer, though. It was like, “Whoa, we’re on TV now!” The level of riding was raw and unfiltered, just pure passion and adrenaline.
Chad Kerley: Man, that sounds epic. To be part of those pioneering events must’ve been unreal. Fast forward to today, it’s a different game with social media and everything. How do you feel about how BMX has evolved?
Mat Hoffman: It’s been a crazy ride, for sure! The evolution is mind-blowing. Social media has its ups and downs, but it’s amazing how riders can connect globally now, share their tricks, and get instant feedback. Plus, the progression – guys like you taking technical riding to new heights – it’s inspiring. I love seeing BMX pushing boundaries, even if it means I gotta watch from the sidelines more these days!

Mat Hoffman: Oh man, the list is long, but the one that sticks is the no-handed 900. I got close a few times, and it still haunts me! But that’s the beauty of BMX – there’s always another challenge, another trick to chase.
Chad Kerley: That would be nuts! For me, it’s always about dialing in those ridiculous combos. I guess we all have that elusive trick that keeps us pushing harder. Alright, last one – any advice for the young riders out there trying to make their mark?
