An Exclusive Conversation: Damian Willemse & Siya Kolisi

Damian Willemse (DW): Hey Siya, what’s up, captain! How’s everything been on your end?

Siya Kolisi (SK): Hey Damian! All good, man. Just wrapped up some intense training sessions. You know how it is. How about you? How’s your recovery going?

DW: It’s going well, thanks. Just trying to get back to full fitness. But you know me, I’m itching to get back on the field. Speaking of which, how do you handle the pressure of leading the team, especially with all eyes on us during big tournaments?

SK: It’s definitely challenging, but it’s also an honor. I try to focus on leading by example and staying grounded. The support from you guys makes it a lot easier. What about you? How do you stay calm under pressure, especially when you’re slotting those crucial kicks?

DW: Oh man, it’s all about blocking out the noise. I try to visualize the kick and clear my head. Easier said than done, of course! But it’s a rewarding process when it works out. So, how do you stay motivated after achieving so much already? I mean, leading the Boks to a World Cup win is no small feat!

SK: True that! I think it’s about always setting new goals. The World Cup win was a dream, but there’s always more to achieve, more records to break. Rugby is constantly evolving, and we need to keep pushing our limits. Plus, the younger players like you keep us on our toes!

DW: Haha, we do try! It’s awesome to have those seasoned perspectives, though. Speaking of which, any advice for us younger chaps trying to make our mark in the squad?

SK: Definitely. Stay humble, work hard, and never stop learning. Rugby is a team sport, and every individual’s growth contributes to the squad’s success. Also, enjoy the journey! The highs and lows are what make it an incredible experience.

DW: Words to live by, captain! Thanks, Siya. Can’t wait to get back out there and smash it with you and the guys. Here’s to many more victories!

SK: Absolutely, Damian! Keep up the hard work, and let’s make this season memorable. Cheers!

And with that, we get a peek into the camaraderie and mutual respect between two key players of the Springboks. Stay tuned for more insights and behind-the-scenes conversations with your favorite rugby stars!
