Inside the Minds: David Bednar & Clayton Kershaw Discuss Pitching and Life

David Bednar: Hey Clayton, great to catch up with you! How have things been on your end? I’ve always admired your career – you’re definitely one of the legends out there.

Clayton Kershaw: Thanks, David! It’s been hectic but in a good way. You know how it is. Tons of travel, games, and trying to find a balance with family life. I’ve been keeping an eye on your games – you’re crushing it, man!

David Bednar: Appreciate it! Finding that balance is definitely key. Speaking of which, how do you manage to keep your focus on the mound, especially with all that pressure during crucial moments?

Clayton Kershaw: It’s all about routine and mental prep. I try to stick to the same pre-game habits, whether it’s visualization or physical warm-ups. But honestly, sometimes it’s just about staying in the moment and trusting your stuff. How about you? You’ve been in some tight spots yourself.

David Bednar: For sure. I’m big on routines too. Listening to the same playlist, doing some breathing exercises – it helps. But there’s nothing like the adrenaline rush when you’re out there, you know? Speaking of adrenaline, what’s been your biggest highlight so far?

Clayton Kershaw: That’s a tough one! Winning the World Series is definitely up there, especially with the Dodgers. It was such a team effort. How about you? Any moments that really stand out?

David Bednar: I think closing out the All-Star Game was surreal. It’s one of those things you dream about as a kid. Plus, seeing the crowd go wild – that energy is just contagious. So, switching gears a bit, what do you do to unwind when you’re off the field?

Clayton Kershaw: Family time is a big one for me. I love being with my kids and wife. We do a lot of outdoor activities – hikes, camping, that kind of stuff. It’s nice to disconnect from baseball every now and then. What about you?

David Bednar: Pretty similar! I enjoy spending time with family and friends, hitting up some local spots for good food and drinks. Pittsburgh has some hidden gems. Also, a bit of gaming on my off days never hurts!

Clayton Kershaw: Sounds awesome. By the way, I’ve been meaning to ask – any specific goals you’ve set for yourself this season?

David Bednar: Definitely looking to improve my strikeout rate and refine my pitches a bit more. Always tweaking to get better, you know? What’s next for you? Any personal goals you’re chasing?

Clayton Kershaw: Just aiming to stay healthy and help the team make another deep playoff run. Keeping things simple and taking it one game at a time. It’s all about the journey, right?

David Bednar: Absolutely. Well, it’s been great chatting, Clayton. Thanks for the insights. Let’s catch up again soon – maybe next time we’ll do it over a good meal!

Clayton Kershaw: For sure, David. Best of luck with the rest of the season. Keep up the great work!
