A Casual Chat with Gee Atherton

Interviewer: Hey Gee, it’s great to have you here today. How have you been?

Gee Atherton: It’s been pretty wild, to be honest. Between training, racing, and juggling a few new projects, there’s never a dull moment.

Interviewer: I can only imagine! Speaking of wild, what’s the craziest thing that’s happened to you on the trail recently?

Gee Atherton: Oh man, where do I start? I was out at Revolution Bike Park a few weeks ago, hit this massive drop I’ve been eyeing, but the landing didn’t go as planned. Let’s just say it ended up being more of an improvisation clinic than a clean run.

Interviewer: Sounds intense! How do you maintain that level of focus under such high stakes?

Gee Atherton: A lot of it comes down to muscle memory and mental prep. You’ve got to trust your training and your instincts. Plus, having shredded with the likes of Steve Peat and Greg Minnaar has dialed in my perspective on risk and reward.

Interviewer: You mentioned new projects. Care to give us a sneak peek?

Gee Atherton: Absolutely. I’m working on a new series of riding clinics aimed at young riders. The goal is to cultivate skills and confidence in the next generation. Also, I’ve got a film project on the horizon that will dive deep into some pretty remote trail adventures.

Interviewer: That sounds amazing! Let’s pivot to family for a second. How’s it being part of the Atherton dynasty?

Gee Atherton: It’s pretty special. We push each other and have an unspoken bond that keeps us motivated. Rach and Dan are my biggest critics and supporters, all in one. It’s a unique dynamic that fuels our competitiveness and camaraderie.

Interviewer: A true family affair! Lastly, what advice would you offer to aspiring downhill riders out there?

Gee Atherton: Ride with passion and perseverance. It’s not about the quick wins but the long game. Stay dedicated, cultivate a solid foundation, and don’t shy away from pushing your limits. And most importantly, have fun. It’s why we ride, after all!

Interviewer: Wise words, Gee. Thanks for sharing your journey and insights with us. Can’t wait to see what’s next for you!

Gee Atherton: My pleasure. Catch you on the trails!
