Cricket Chats: Joel Garner and Curtly Ambrose Reflect

Joel Garner: Hey Curtly, good to see you, man! How’s life treating you post-cricket?

Curtly Ambrose: Good to see you too, Big Bird! Life’s been good. I’ve been dabbling in some music with my band, you know, living the island dream. How about you?

Joel Garner: Oh, I’ve been keeping busy with some coaching and youth development back home in Barbados. It’s important to pass on what we’ve learned to the next generation.

Curtly Ambrose: Absolutely, I hear you! It’s funny, though, every time I talk to youngsters, they always ask about our bowling duels back in the day. Remember that Test series against England in ’84?

Joel Garner: How could I forget? Those were some intense matches. We really gave them a tough time on their home turf. I think that was when the “Four Horsemen” got real famous, eh?

Curtly Ambrose: Oh yeah, those were the days! You, Holding, Roberts, and Croft. Man, that intimidation factor was real. Batsmen must have lost sleep thinking about facing you guys.

Joel Garner: Haha, I’d like to think so! But, you weren’t any less terrifying with your height and those sharp deliveries. Remember when you took that 7/25 against Australia in ’93? Pure class!

Curtly Ambrose: Thanks, Joel. That was one of those days where everything just clicked. Speaking of which, your 5/38 in the 1979 World Cup final was brilliant. We couldn’t have pulled it off without your spells.

Joel Garner: Appreciate it, Curtly. It was a team effort, as always. So, what’s next for you? Any plans to get back into cricket in some form?

Curtly Ambrose: You know, I’ve been thinking about it. Maybe some consultancy roles here and there. It would be great to see West Indies dominate cricket again.

Joel Garner: That’s the spirit! Together, with our experience, we can help bring the Caribbean cricket legacy back to its former glory. Let’s grab a coffee and strategize?

Curtly Ambrose: Sounds like a plan, Big Bird. Let’s do it!

And with that, two giants of West Indies cricket walked off into the sunset, ready to inspire the next generation.
