Inside the Dugout: Joey Meneses Chats with Fellow Baseball Pro Miguel Cabrera
Joey Meneses: Hey Miguel! What’s up, man? It’s always great running into you on and off the field. How have things been for you lately?
Miguel Cabrera: Joey, my man! Things have been good. Just trying to enjoy my time on the diamond and guide the younger players. But let’s talk about you. You’ve been turning heads with your bat! What’s been your secret sauce this season?
Joey Meneses: Honestly, Miggy, it’s been about keeping it simple and focusing on my approach. I try not to overthink things and stick to what I know works for me. And of course, watching legends like you over the years has been a huge inspiration. What’s been your secret to staying on top for so long?
Miguel Cabrera: (Laughs) Oh man, it’s all about staying consistent and adapting to the game as it changes. Plus, a little bit of that Tiger pride doesn’t hurt! But seriously, I’ve always tried to stay a student of the game, even now. Speaking of staying sharp, I saw that home run you belted last week. Walk me through that at-bat.
Joey Meneses: Oh, that pitch was right in my sweet spot. I was looking for something off-speed after a couple of fastballs, and luckily the pitcher left a slider hanging just enough. I put a good swing on it and the rest is history. It’s all about capitalizing on those mistakes, right?
Miguel Cabrera: Absolutely, capitalizing is key. Sometimes those little moments make all the difference. You know, your story is pretty inspiring, coming up through the minors and making a name for yourself in the majors. Any advice for the young guys grinding it out down there?
Joey Meneses: Definitely. I’d say never lose sight of your dream, no matter how long it takes. Hard work, patience, and always being ready when your number is called—that’s the combo that worked for me. How about you, any pearls of wisdom for the rookies?
Miguel Cabrera: I’d tell them to focus on the fundamentals and embrace every opportunity to learn. And remember to enjoy the game. It’s easy to get caught up in the pressures, but at the end of the day, we’re playing a game we love. Keep that joy alive.
Joey Meneses: Couldn’t have said it better myself. By the way, any plans after you hang up the cleats? Coaching maybe?
Miguel Cabrera: Oh, you never know. I might stick around in some capacity. Baseball’s in my blood, so I can’t imagine stepping away completely. For now, I’m just soaking up every last moment on the field. What about you? Any big dreams beyond playing?
Joey Meneses: I haven’t thought that far ahead yet, but I’d love to give back to the game somehow. Maybe help mentor the next generation of players. Until then, it’s all about making the most out of every at-bat and every season.
Miguel Cabrera: Sounds like a solid plan, Joey. Keep swinging for the fences, and I’ll see you on the field, amigo!
Joey Meneses: You got it, Miggy. Keep being a legend, and thanks for the chat!
