Mark Canha Talks Baseball, Food, and Life with Celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsay
Mark Canha: Hey Gordon, it’s awesome to finally meet you. I’ve been a fan for a long time – both of your food and your, shall we say, “colorful” coaching style on TV!
Gordon Ramsay: (laughs) Well, it’s great to meet you too, Mark. I’ve been following your baseball career closely. Tell me, do you find any similarities between being on the field and being in the kitchen?
Mark Canha: Definitely. I think both require a lot of preparation and discipline. Whether it’s perfecting a swing or perfecting a dish, attention to detail and practice are key. Plus, both environments can get pretty heated!
Gordon Ramsay: Oh, you have no idea. Speaking of food, I’ve heard you’re quite the foodie yourself. Any favorite dishes you’ve come across in your travels?
Mark Canha: Oh man, where do I start? I’ve got a soft spot for a really good bowl of ramen. Whenever we have an away game in a city that’s known for its ramen, it’s my mission to hunt it down. But I’ve been trying my hand at cooking more seafood lately and it’s been a fun challenge.
Gordon Ramsay: Ah, ramen – a man after my own heart. Seafood, though, that’s a tricky one. What’s been your best dish so far?
Mark Canha: I’d say my garlic butter shrimp is definitely up there. It’s simple but packs a punch. And it goes well with a post-game beer!
Gordon Ramsay: That sounds fantastic. Next time I’m in town, you’ll have to cook it for me. Who knows, maybe you’ll get some pointers from me in return! But let’s talk baseball for a minute – what’s been your most memorable moment on the field?
Mark Canha: There are so many, but hitting that walk-off home run last season definitely stands out. The energy in the stadium was electric, and it’s moments like that you live for. It’s why we play the game.
Gordon Ramsay: I can imagine! The rush, the excitement – it’s all a bit like wrapping up a high-stakes service in the kitchen. That exhilaration and sense of accomplishment are unparalleled.
Mark Canha: Exactly. And just like in cooking, there are no shortcuts. You’ve got to put in the work, day in and day out.
Gordon Ramsay: Absolutely, Mark. Well, it was fantastic catching up. Next time we’ll have to do this over a meal – my treat, of course.
Mark Canha: Sounds like a plan, Gordon. I’m looking forward to it!
What a great conversation between two passionate individuals who excel in their fields. Whether it’s the baseball diamond or the kitchen, dedication and a love for what you do make all the difference.
