Scotty Cranmer Chats with BMX Legend Mat Hoffman: A Deep Dive into the BMX World
Scotty Cranmer: Hey everyone! Today, I’ve got an absolute legend with me. Someone who’s inspired generations of BMX riders, including myself. Let’s give a big welcome to Mat Hoffman! How’s it going, Mat?
Mat Hoffman: Hey Scotty, great to be here! It’s always awesome to chat with riders who are pushing the sport forward. How have you been?
Scotty Cranmer: Doing great, man. Still riding, still loving every moment of it. Speaking of pushing the sport, you’ve been doing that since the ’80s! What was it like back then, compared to now?
Mat Hoffman: Wow, the ’80s were wild times. The sport was so raw and unpredictable. We were basically creating the rules as we went along. These days, the level of skill and the tricks people are pulling off are mind-blowing. Riders like you are taking it to new heights.
Scotty Cranmer: Thanks, Mat! It’s all about building on what legends like you started. I remember watching your videos and being blown away. What’s the craziest trick you’ve ever landed?
Mat Hoffman: That’s a tough one. Probably the no-handed 900 back in ’93. I remember hitting the ramp and feeling like I was in another world. What about you, Scotty? What trick are you most proud of?
Scotty Cranmer: The front flip tailwhip definitely stands out. It took so many tries and plenty of crashes, but when I finally nailed it, the feeling was indescribable. Speaking of tricks, have you ever had a ‘no way I’m trying that again’ moment?
Mat Hoffman: Absolutely! There’s a reason they call it ‘the Condor Crazy’. I’ve had a few attempts where the risk outweighed the reward. What about you? Any tricks you’ve sworn off?
Scotty Cranmer: Oh, the double backflip is still a nemesis. I’ve landed it a few times, but the amount of precision required is insane. Every time I think about trying it again, I remember the crashes. Haha!
Mat Hoffman: That’s the beauty of BMX, Scotty. The fear, the excitement, and the triumph. It’s a rollercoaster that never gets old. What advice would you give to young riders just starting out?
Scotty Cranmer: Stay persistent, and don’t be afraid to push your limits. And most importantly, have fun. Ride for the love of it, not just to land tricks. What about you, Mat? Any words of wisdom for the next generation?
Mat Hoffman: I’d say embrace the community. BMX has such a strong, supportive network. Lean on that. And never stop innovating. The sport grows because riders are always pushing what’s possible.
Scotty Cranmer: Couldn’t agree more. Thanks for joining me today, Mat. This has been epic! Any last words for our readers?
Mat Hoffman: Just keep riding, keep dreaming, and keep making BMX the incredible sport that it is. Thanks for having me, Scotty!
Scotty Cranmer: Anytime, Mat! And to everyone out there, keep shredding and stay inspired. Catch you on the next ride!
