A Friendly Chat: Steven Matz & Adam Wainwright

Steven Matz: [Laughs] Adam, you always know how to make an entrance. What’s the latest with you?

Adam Wainwright: [Grins] Hey Matz! Same old, same old. Still trying to fool these hitters with my curve. But enough about me, how’s life treating you in St. Louis?

Steven Matz: It’s been fantastic, man. The fans here are unreal, and the team has such a great vibe. It’s a different kind of energy than New York, more laid-back but passionate.

Adam Wainwright: Yeah, Cards fans really know their stuff. It’s like every game, you feel that history behind you. Speaking of history, that Grand Slam you hit last year—how did that feel?

Steven Matz: [Laughing] Man, that was a dream come true. I mean, pitchers’ batting averages generally aren’t anything to brag about, but connecting on one like that…felt like I was floating around those bases.

Adam Wainwright: Definitely something to tell the grandkids! So, let me ask you, how’s the adjustment been for you pitching in the Central division compared to the East?

Steven Matz: It’s interesting. The lineups here are a bit different, more old-school in a way. You get more scrappy, contact hitters, less focus on the long ball. It’s made me think a lot more about each pitch, how to set guys up. Keeps me on my toes.

Adam Wainwright: I can vouch for that. The Central keeps you honest. Now, I’ve got to know—outside of baseball, what’s keeping you busy these days?

Steven Matz: My garden, weirdly enough. [Laughs] Never thought I’d be a gardening guy, but it’s oddly relaxing. And I get some good veggies out of it!

Adam Wainwright: No way! The guy who throws flames is also growing tomatoes. You never fail to surprise, Matz. Ever thought about starting a team garden?

Steven Matz: Hey, that’s not a bad idea! Bonding over cucumbers and carrots might be just what we need for that extra edge. [Chuckles]

Adam Wainwright: Sign me up, man. I’m all in. It’s those little things that make the grind enjoyable. Well, it’s been great catching up. Let’s keep that momentum going and bring that championship glow back to St. Louis!

Steven Matz: Absolutely, can’t wait. Let’s crush it this season!
