An Engaging Conversation with Thibaut Pinot and Julian Alaphilippe

Thibaut Pinot: Julian! It’s been a while, mon ami. How have you been?

Julian Alaphilippe: Thibaut, good to see you! I’ve been great, just getting ready for the next race. You know how it is. What about you? How’s life treating the climber extraordinaire?

Thibaut Pinot: Ah, life is good. Spending more time in the Vosges, training in the mountains, and of course, enjoying a good glass of wine. The usual, you know. Speaking of which, what’s your go-to wine these days?

Julian Alaphilippe: French, naturellement! But I’m always keen to try new bottles. Got any recommendations from your beloved Burgundy?

Thibaut Pinot: Absolutely. There’s this fantastic Pinot Noir I stumbled upon recently. I can never resist a good Burgundy, especially after a long ride. It’s the perfect way to unwind. Have you had any exciting adventures off the bike lately?

Julian Alaphilippe: Well, I’ve been dabbling in a bit of everything – music, cooking. Always trying to keep things interesting. You should join me for a jam session one of these days. I heard you play a mean piano.

Thibaut Pinot: Ha, I’m not sure about that! But I’d love to. Music is such a great way to relax and connect. Speaking of connecting, have you had a chance to catch up with any of the young riders? They’re really shaking things up!

Julian Alaphilippe: Totally! It’s so inspiring to see their energy and fearlessness. Reminds me of the early days. Did you see Pogačar in the last race? Unbelievable talent.

Thibaut Pinot: Yes, he’s incredible. It’s wonderful to see how the sport is evolving. Though, nothing beats the thrill of those epic mountain stages we’ve had. Any mountain in particular you’re itching to tackle again?

Julian Alaphilippe: Alpe d’Huez, definitely. There’s something magical about it. The atmosphere, the challenge. It’s like no other. How about you?

Thibaut Pinot: For me, it’s got to be Mont Ventoux. The Giant of Provence. Every time I ride it, it’s like a conversation with the legends who came before us. Well, Julian, it’s always inspiring chatting with you. Here’s to more epic rides and great wines!

Julian Alaphilippe: Cheers to that, Thibaut! Let’s make sure our paths cross on and off the bike more often. À bientot, my friend!
