An Exclusive Chat: Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara Catch-Up Over Coffee

Kumar Sangakkara: Tillakaratne, my man! It’s been ages. How have you been? Still whacking golf balls like they’re cricket balls?

Tillakaratne Dilshan: (laughs) Sangakkara! Good to see you, buddy. Yeah, I’ve swapped the cricket bat for a golf club these days. And guess what? I still have that signature “Dilscoop” swing, even on the golf course!

Kumar: (grinning) I’d expect nothing less from the inventor of the “Dilscoop!” Do you remember when you first pulled that off? I think the bowlers were left completely baffled.

Dilshan: Oh, absolutely. It was during the 2009 T20 World Cup. Funny story—I hadn’t even practiced it much. It just felt right in the moment, and the ball flew over the keeper’s head. The look on their faces was priceless!

Kumar: Ah, classic Dilshan. Always pulling out something unexpected from the bag of tricks. Speaking of tricks, are you still involved with cricket in Sri Lanka? Coaching the young guns, perhaps?

Dilshan: You know me, I can’t stay away from cricket for too long. I’m doing some mentoring and commentary here and there. It’s fantastic to see the next generation coming up. They’re fearless and innovative—just like we were back in the day.

Kumar: Well, they do learn from the best! By the way, I watched a clip of your son playing. He seems to have inherited the “Dilshan flair.” Are we looking at another star in the making?

Dilshan: (smiling proudly) He’s passionate, that’s for sure. But who knows? I just want him to enjoy the game as much as I did. If he wants to take it up professionally, I’ll support him all the way.

Kumar: That’s the spirit. Enjoyment first, everything else follows. Speaking of enjoyment, how are things off the field? Family, food, travel?

Dilshan: Life’s good! I’ve been exploring a bit with the family, tasting cuisines from different places. Remember those food adventures during our tours? The spicy dishes in India, the sushi in Japan…

Kumar: Oh yes, those were the days. Nothing like a good curry to recharge after a tough match! Speaking of which, we should catch up with the rest of the gang soon—maybe plan a little reunion tour?

Dilshan: Definitely! Let’s get everyone on board. It’s time we relive some old memories and make new ones. Just make sure you don’t bring any of your leg-spin this time (laughs). That was disastrous!

Kumar: (laughs) Agreed. Let’s leave the leg-spin and stick to what we know best—good times, great friends, and a whole lot of cricket banter!

And with that, the two cricket legends clinked their coffee cups, reminiscing about the past, enjoying the present, and looking forward to the future.

“Life isn’t measured by the number of wickets taken or runs scored, but by the moments we share on and off the field.” – Tillakaratne Dilshan
