Inside the Scrum: Tom Wright Chats with Former Wallabies Captain Stephen Moore

Tom Wright:

Hey Stephen, it’s always a pleasure catching up with you. How’s life treating you post-retirement?

Stephen Moore:

Hey Tom! It’s been great, mate. Keeping busy with punditry and spending quality time with the family. But I have to admit, I do miss the adrenaline rush of being out on the field. How are things with you?

Tom Wright:

All good, mate. Just trying to keep up with the pace. It’s non-stop, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Speaking of the field, what’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone like me who’s still in the thick of it?

Stephen Moore:

One piece of advice? That’s a tough one. I’d say, stay humble and always listen to your teammates. It’s the chemistry on and off the field that makes a team great. Trust me, those bonds will get you through the toughest matches.

Tom Wright:

Solid advice, mate. It’s easy to get caught up in the individual accolades but at the end of the day, it’s the team wins that matter. By the way, I recently checked out the replay of that 2015 World Cup final. Man, you were a beast out there! Any memorable moments from that game?

Stephen Moore:

Thanks, Tom. That game was unforgettable for many reasons. The atmosphere, the intensity, everything was electrifying. But if I had to choose, the moment when we scored that try in the second half really felt like we had a door open to turn things around. Unfortunately, it didn’t go our way in the end, but those games live on.

Tom Wright:

I can only imagine the pressure and the thrill of being in a World Cup final. We all look up to moments like that. Speaking of thrilling moments, what’s your take on the current direction of the Wallabies? Any young guns catching your eye?

Stephen Moore:

Oh, absolutely. There’s immense talent coming through the ranks. You’ve got blokes like Jordan Petaia and Fraser McReight making waves. And of course, there’s you! Your versatility as a fullback and winger adds such a dynamic flair to the squad. The Wallabies have a bright future ahead if they keep laying the foundation with these young talents.

Tom Wright:

Thanks mate, that means a lot coming from you. The young guns have such raw energy and potential – it’s infectious. So, what’s next for you? Any plans to get back into the game in a coaching capacity?

Stephen Moore:

Who knows, Tom? The idea has crossed my mind. For now, I’m enjoying being a fan and using my experience to give back to the sport in different ways. But never say never, right? Cheers to you, mate. Keep pushing those boundaries!

Tom Wright:

I appreciate it, Stephen. You’ve always been an inspiration. Let’s catch up again soon, maybe over a few cold ones!

Stephen Moore:

Definitely, Tom. Take care and give ’em hell out there!
