A Casual Chat: Vladimir Guerrero and David Ortiz
David Ortiz: Vladdy! What’s up, hermano? Haven’t seen you since that All-Star Game last year. How’s everything been with you?
Vladimir Guerrero: Big Papi! Man, it’s always good to see you. Things have been great. Junior is doing his thing, making me proud out there. How about you? Missing the field yet?
David Ortiz: You know it! There’s nothing like the rush of stepping up to the plate, but retirement ain’t too bad either. Gives me time to catch up on all those family barbecues. Speaking of family, how’s it seeing your boy crush it at the big leagues?
Vladimir Guerrero: It’s like a dream, man. Seeing Vladdy Jr. hit those homers, it’s surreal. I’m just glad he didn’t inherit my wild arm! Haha. But seriously, you’ve seen the potential in him since day one, right?
David Ortiz: Absolutely! The kid’s got the Ortiz seal of approval. I remember telling people, “Watch out, the next generation Guerrero is coming!” Guess I wasn’t wrong. But speaking of wild arms, I remember some of your amazing throws from right field. What’s your secret, bro?
Vladimir Guerrero: Haha, lots of practice and a pinch of crazy! I just loved challenging myself to make those throws. But hey, you were no slouch either with the bat. I still think about some of those clutch hits you had for the Red Sox. Any regrets hanging up the cleats?
David Ortiz: You always gotta listen to your body, brother. But yeah, sometimes I miss those late-inning dramas. Now it’s all about grilling steaks and working on my golf game. Speaking of downtime, what keeps you busy these days besides watching Junior smack those balls?
Vladimir Guerrero: Oh, you know, just keeping it laid back. Spending time with the family, giving some tips to the young ballplayers, and keeping an eye on my cattle farm back in the Dominican. Trying to enjoy the simple life, you know?
David Ortiz: Sounds like the perfect balance to me. Always knew you’d find peace after the game. Alright, brother, let’s plan a charity event soon. It’ll be awesome seeing how much money we can raise with a home run derby, you, me, and Junior. What do you say?
Vladimir Guerrero: You know I’m down for that! Anything for a good cause and a chance to hang out with the legend himself. Let’s do it, Big Papi!
David Ortiz: That’s what I’m talking about! Until then, give my best to the family, and keep cheering loud for Junior. We’ll catch up soon, hermano.
Vladimir Guerrero: Will do, David. Take care, my friend!
