A Candid Conversation with Arina Fedorovtseva and Karch Kiraly
Karch Kiraly: Arina! So glad you could make some time for this chat. How are things going with you?
Arina Fedorovtseva: Hey Karch! It’s always an honor to talk with a legend like you. Things are absolutely fantastic. Training hard, playing harder, you know how it is!
Karch Kiraly: Oh, I totally get that. I’ve been following your games; your performance has been nothing short of spectacular. What’s your secret to staying so mentally tough on the court?
Arina Fedorovtseva: Thanks, that means a lot coming from you. Honestly, I think it’s just about staying present. I focus on each point, one at a time, and try not to get too caught up in the pressure. Oh, and coffee. Lots of coffee! (Laughs)
Karch Kiraly: (Laughs) Coffee, the lifeblood of champions! Do you find any particular rituals or routines help keep you grounded?
Arina Fedorovtseva: For sure. I always listen to music before matches—it helps me get into the zone. And I have this lucky charm bracelet my mom gave me. Never play without it.
Karch Kiraly: That’s awesome. I had my own little pre-game rituals back in the day. Speaking of which, how has the adjustment been playing in different countries and leagues?
Arina Fedorovtseva: It’s challenging but incredibly rewarding. Each league has its own style, and adapting to that keeps me on my toes. Plus, it’s so cool to experience different cultures. Any advice on how to handle all the travel?
Karch Kiraly: Hydration and sleep are your best friends. And don’t underestimate the power of a good book to pass the time. What’s on your reading list these days?
Arina Fedorovtseva: Oh, I just started reading “Atomic Habits.” Figured it’s a good way to build some positive habits off the court as well.
Karch Kiraly: Excellent choice! That book’s a game-changer. Speaking of habits, what’s one thing about your training that might surprise people?
Arina Fedorovtseva: I think people would be surprised by how much I focus on mental training. Visualization exercises are a huge part of my routine. It’s like playing the match in my head before it actually happens.
Karch Kiraly: I completely agree. The mental game is just as important as the physical. Lastly, for all the young aspiring volleyball players out there, what’s one piece of advice you’d give them?
Arina Fedorovtseva: Stay passionate and never stop learning. The moment you think you know it all, you’ve stopped growing. Always be curious and keep pushing your limits.
Karch Kiraly: Wise words, Arina. Thanks for the chat; it’s been incredible. Best of luck with your upcoming matches!
Arina Fedorovtseva: Thank you so much, Karch! It’s been a pleasure. I’ll take all the luck I can get!
