Behind the Court with Yacine Louati: A Candid Conversation

Host: Sarah Johnson, Sports Journalist (SJ): Hey Yacine, thanks for taking the time to chat with us today! We’re all excited to get an inside look at your life both on and off the court.

Yacine Louati (YL): Hey Sarah, the pleasure is mine! Always good to take a breather and share some stories.

SJ: So, kicking things off, can you tell us how you first got into volleyball? Was it love at first spike?

YL (laughs): You could say that! Growing up in Tourcoing, France, I was always into sports, but volleyball just had this unique rhythm. And let’s be honest, there’s nothing quite like that satisfying smack of a perfect spike.

SJ: Absolutely! Speaking of rhythms, I hear you’re quite the music aficionado. Does your playlist play a role in your pre-game ritual?

YL: Oh, definitely. Music is a huge part of my life. Right before a game, you can catch me with my headphones on, getting in the zone with some high-energy beats. It gets the adrenaline pumping and helps me focus.

SJ: And do you have a go-to track for those moments?

YL (grinning): It changes from time to time, but right now I’m really into some French rap and a bit of EDM. It’s all about that bass and beat, you know?

SJ: Nice! Now, on the court, you’re known for your versatility. How do you balance playing different positions and staying sharp in each one?

YL: Great question! It boils down to constant practice and understanding the game from different angles. Whether I’m spiking, blocking, or serving, I try to visualize each play and adapt my strategy to the opponent’s moves. Plus, having a great team around you makes all the difference.

SJ: Speaking of team, you’ve played internationally and now you’re with Jastrzębski Węgiel. How’s that experience been for you, and how do you adapt to different cultures and teams?

YL: It’s been an incredible journey. Each team has its own vibe, and adapting is part of the adventure. You learn new techniques, new strategies, and of course, you get to indulge in some amazing local cuisines! Communication is key—both on and off the court.

SJ: You’ve mentioned food—what’s the best dish you’ve tried during your travels?

YL (laughs): Oh man, that’s a tough one. I’d have to say Italian pasta dishes are up there, but I also have a soft spot for Japanese sushi. The freshness and precision in Japanese cuisine are just unparalleled.

SJ: Sounds delicious! Last question before we let you go: any advice for young aspiring volleyball players out there?

YL: Never stop learning and always keep pushing your limits. Volleyball is as much a mental game as it is physical. Stay focused, be resilient, and enjoy every moment on the court. And don’t forget to have fun—after all, that’s what it’s all about!

SJ: Wise words, Yacine. Thanks so much for talking with us today. Wishing you all the success in your upcoming matches!

YL: Thanks, Sarah! It’s been a blast. See you on the court!
